This is Casanova hollowed out by years of inextinguishable grudges, one told by "The Venetian". Avid of the present and burdened by the past, the old seducer appears on the main scene as a prisoner of the mammoth and ancient library of the Count of Waldstein, in the Bohemian town of Dux. It is the final years of the eighteenth century. Mocked by the courtiers of the count and intent on writing down his effervescent memories, Casanova stars as a man exposed to the threat of ridicule and, at the same time, forced to resolve the plot of a mystery that will be revealed only in the end, both to him and the viewers. A mystery that intertwines the stories of distant lovers to letters of an impotent brother, and the enigmatic gift of a cage in which a talkative parrot lives. During the course of one week the investigation will proceed hand in hand with the portrayal of an extraordinary man, now living on the periphery of life chased away with time.
